Apparently, this weekend, the weather is supposed to dip back down to the ugly fifties. I know this meteorological development is simply typical April running its course, but: sigh. My warm weather motivation to live and to do is at its springtime high, and I’m disappointed to be stifling it with indoor activities and heavier jackets.
At the least, I can still indulge myself in some springtime favorites and pretend, perhaps, that the weather is cooperating with my mood.
There’s asparagus, for instance. I’ll just never tire of my favorite vegetable.
Champagne mangoes too. Are you familiar with this delicious fruit? Mangoes are great, but the champagne variety deserves praise all its own. I look forward to the reappearance of these yellow guys every spring.
My flats are back out, because my boots need to visit the shoemaker, and lack of socks means less laundry to be done.
I’m making muesli, aka overnight oats, again: a summertime staple. [...and a recycled snacktime photo from last year.]
Nautical everything has returned to my wardrobe. I’ve been known to joke that I dress like a grandmother all winter long [seriously, my grandma and I always compliment each other's outfits, and I may have stolen a few of her accessories]. But in the summertime, I take it down to maybe a 30-year-old’s level, with less print and more of the classics: red, white, blue, gold.
And I’m happily enjoying refreshing salads loaded with avocado. I cannot get enough gooey green in my life lately, and I seem to be plowing through three or four avocados a week. My produce consumption might be an occasionally expensive habit, but hey, it’s worth it. Plus, it couldn’t be more appropriate for the coming season.
What are your favorite spring things?

I, too, am bummed about the cooler temps this weekend. BUT I just got a cute pair of LL Bean flats with lil anchors on them. Bring on the nautical accessories! We can pretend it’s June :-)
I hear you on less laundry!! Can’t wait to wear all my sandels and flats without tights for once. Love asp and avocodos!
My favorite spring things are wearing peach and cream, bbq veggie burgers, lots of iced black tea with plums!

Spring fruits and vegetables — berries, asparagus, avocado, watermelon! So much deliciousness. Weather warm enough to eat outside and spend as much time outdoors as possible. Just being able to take a book to the park. Kayaking. Cherry blossoms. Iced green tea. Frozen yogurt. Sun dresses.
Okay, most of those are food related… ;)
I love that without fail the daffodils spring up and then right when they start to die the tulips take their place. So pretty and so predictable so you always have something to look forward to!
Is it sad that when I think of Spring, I think of outdoor yoga? ;)
Also: Farmer’s Markets (although none as great as Union Square), Lacoste polos, boat shoes, and Tory tunics. Sigh…
That salad looks mouth-watering, by the way.
Have a lovely weekend, dear, despite the cool temps…
xx
Farmer’s Markets, champagne out on the deck, late evening walks when there is still daylight!
Had never heard of champagne mangoes until I read this today. Walked into Whole Foods tonight and was welcomed by a huge display of them 5 for $5……. bought one to try…. YUMMMMMMM…. my 7 year old announced that I should go back in the morning and get “lots more” !
