I really dislike February.
It’s an annoying month. It’s cold. It’s short. There are basically three vegetables in season.
I’ve always seen February as a sequence of four unnecessary weeks. It’s our final wintry challenge to survive them, with the reward that sunnier skies potentially await us in March.
Still, my 2010 mantra seems to be “fixate on the positivity,” so I have been searching for reasons to be glad that the first morning of this little month has arrived.
It’s been a near Herculean task, but I’ve managed to dredge up a few:
Looking past the tacky hearts, Disney characters, and low-quality chocolate, there are some beautiful, warm colors that await us on the mid-month holiday.
December and January are behind us, which means we are that much closer to spring. It won’t be long before I can eat my favorite fruits fresh by the bowlful, instead of rationing the bag in the freezer.
Meanwhile, the remaining cold weather still affords cozy accessorizing – even if it takes five extra minutes to bundle up before walking out the door.
With Valentine’s Day approaching, other people will finally begin to join me in eating a few squares of chocolate each day. Thank goodness, because it’s a lonely January with everyone turning dessert down.
This month will also mark the first party my sister and I will be throwing in our new apartment. Showing off our new home, putting on an excessive outfit, stocking up on a case of wine – all good things.
President’s Day, in just a couple weeks, means a three-day weekend, which usually affords me a day of doing absolutely nothing, aside from playing with my pots and pans. No complaints there!
Any reason you’re welcoming the arrival of February?

february ain’t so bad. i’m going on a ski trip at the end of the month, so that’s something to be excited about!
and i’ve started eating dark chocolate, so i will surely join you in this indulgence probably every day of the year, not only valentine’s day.
i’m only welcoming february for it to be over and it to be march, i really need some warmer weather asap. but sister’s birthday is valentines day which is always nice cause i can always have plans even though i don’t have my own man. hah
happy monday, i’m going to join in the positivity challenge!
xoxo
I’m happy for February only because I leave for Australia in 2 weeks and it’s onto summer. This is a month usually full of brown snow, freezing temps and nothing redeeming. Besides, yes, mounds of chocolate.
I love that “our final wintry challenge” I like a challenge so bring on February I say! Know how you feel though sweetie, I long for spring sunshine, flowers and fruits now.
Cozy knitwear is definitely a positive about the cold weather though
Love xxooxxoo
I don’t like February. It’s the shortest month, and yet feels like the longest- the novelty of winter has worn off, the days are still short and the weather is ridiculously cold. Though I notice it staying light slightly later…the occasional day where the sun peeks through the sky. And I love knowing that spring is just around the corner…
I’m pretty stoked about February. It’s probably because I just started school, and I’m still in the honeymoon stage of my last semester.
I can totally relate to your hatred for the month!
We are that much closer to spring! Yes!
Citrus is a bonus to this time of year. And I do like Valentine’s day, because my mom has always made it about showing everyone love, not just a significant other.
I don’t particularly dislike February, but you’re right there’s not much to it. That’s why I think it’s important to plan things to look forward to. For example, I’m going on vacation next week to somewhere warm! If I didn’t get away at least 1 week in the winter I would not be a happy camper..
February is kind of weird. And I am nooooot loving the whole lack of winter squash thing going on.
Such a good list of reasons to like February! I get caught up in the winter doldrums every year, but the promise of chocolate every day is exciting

Wine, Chocolate. Good times!
Feburary is a very “blah” month.. I find I just want to blink and have March.. so we can start seeing flowers bloom, fresh fruit.. and then spring.. which leads to summer
You’ve found so great reasons to enjoy this short, cold month…I think what gets me through February is knowing that spring break is on the other side
February is a bummer (SO cold outside right now!), but we are inching closer to spring. I think I’m going to create a Daylights Savings Time countdown
And until then, I’m going to wear lots of warm clothes and drink lots of hot cocoa!
