Last week, over lunch with a friend, I was chatting about the pull I constantly feel towards international living. It’s strange, as I would happily spend a stint nearly anywhere in the world, yet when I consider my own country, there is only one place I can imagine settling, and it’s exactly where I am: New York.
As I currently marvel at the beautiful turnover of items at the farmers’ market and the cool breezes inspiring fall-fashionable layering, I am feeling a renewed relationship with the city.
I love that healthy living is natural, easy, and widespread.
In a ten-block radius, I can find elegant raw cuisine, swoon-worthy vegan ice cream, and juice to go.
The paths for walking, running, or bicycling are beautiful and abundant.
And, walking is a way of life. [I am a terrible driver, and I am also plagued by automobile-induced motion sickness. I like to walk.]
I am greeted by seasonal produce on nearly any block.
In every borough, the city and nature collide – the best of both worlds.
What do you love about your current locale?

love the city, i ma so jelous you live there :-P haha, ahh yes, all the things you wrote about NYC made me so happy just thinking of it. my dream is to live there, or brooklyn, i dont know, sometimes i want an urban life and sometimes the idea of a home in New England (maine ? or something) appeals to me, to be in the ‘country’ or surrounded by nature.. but then again bklyn or manhattan is so amazing. :)
where i live now, i like it sometimes, i live 20 miles north of Manhattan. and i guess its the closets suburb of the city, i love the rural feel of this area, the Hudson river view, cute town, and its so pretty further upstate NY. although its quite boring, mall. mall. mall..lol…ahh but atleast the city is a 25 minute drive away!
have a great day lovely!

i love this post! love everything about it, the pictures are so pretty and i love hearing about your life in NY and the produce etc. i love the city as well, as i have said i was born in Brooklyn and i lived in the upper west side with my dad for about 4 years from age 8-12, wish i still lived in the city, but so glad i live just right outside, my dad now lives in West Chester and i live with my mom in rockland county, i like it here i guess, its beautiful, and right by the Hudson river…lots of great shops and loads of health food stores and specialty markets, wf and trader joes etc are close enough…but i would love to live in the city or Brooklyn in a few years. :)
lots of love xo

I feel the same as you. I LOVE to travel and have had the best time traveling and living around the world over the past couple of years. But as far as settling down, there’s nowhere I want to live as much as Washington DC, where I grew up and still live. It’s the perfect fit –proximity to nature, walkable, lots of locale produce and eco-conscious people, liberal…
I’m very proud of my hometown and county (Yorkshire) Although I’d love to travel all over the worlk, I’d like nothing more than to come home here.
Gosh, I miss NY. I am actually pretty unhappy with where I am now (Sunnyvale, CA). I’m a walker and I can’t walk anywhere here. I LOVED living in NY. I am hoping that we can move back soon. It’s either NY or Miami at this point. Miami would be nice because I love hot weather, Bobby’s family is there, and a bunch of my friends are there too.
Most of my family lives in NY so I can totally relate… but I’m in a totally different area of the country. I live in Arizona. I’m surrounded by mountains, cactus, wide open blue skies and a fabulous little town. I can bike anywhere I need to go and the weather is nice and warm in the summer and mild in the winter.

I moved to the country from the valley and it took adjusting to. But now I have a new found appreciation for apple orchirds, wild horses, sunrises and 360 mountain views. It really is breath taking. I do have to comment on NY though..I’ve been their twice and its amazing! Very upbeat, cultural and fun. I would love to go their again now that I’m vegetarian and see what it has to offer me. Where I live…there is practicaly zero cafe options.

Ah, how I LOVE NYC.
I love that the closest source of food in Amherst is a farm to me. I love how beautiful everything becomes once fall comes into this part of the state…but I would be lying if I didn’t say I’m looking forward to coming home this weekend :)
if you love to travel come to singapore!! :) i’ll be your tour guide i promise!
but NY is awesome too. i cant wait to go there soon. my borther promised me to take me there very soon and i can not wait.
what i love about singapore? well its always warm, so if you’ve been in the air con for ages you just take a step outside and you are warm. also you can always wear dresses, sandels, sunglasses and there is always a reason for ice cream ;)
have a beautiful day
Reading this post made me so jealous of your dwelling in NYC! I love city life, especially New York. You have literally every resource one could wish for plus the best and biggest of everything! Not to mention so many food options for “alternative” diets. Lucky. I will live there one day!
I love NY for all those reasons :D The energy, the vibe, the curtural melting pot… Though now that I am back, I am strangely missing Einburgh. I love the castle in the city centre, the cannon that goes off every day at 1pm, the peace and quiet. New York feels very frantic and fast-paced to me in comparison…something I used to love, but I’m pretty overwhelmed right now!
Living in NYC is pretty awesome…but how the heck do you stand the gloomy winter days? I can’t bear it!
I like LA…It’s always got something happening, and it’s got great foodie places, too and TONS of farmers market…now, if only I had a car to get me around…
