Last night, I enjoyed a return visit to Bonobo’s Vegetarian, a raw and vegan café, where I met up with the lovely Sofia.
Bonobo’s is a small, but bright spot pleasantly situated across from Madison Square Park. Its white walls and wooden tables keep the atmosphere crisp and light – appropriate for its raw cuisine.
On offer at the counter are various prepared dishes, smoothies, and soups, along with a delightfully varied create your own salad bar. Two salad sizes are available: regular and gorilla. On my first visit with Danielle, we both, of course, went straight for the gorilla.
A nice perk: the knowledgeable staff have a stocked supply of miniature spoons, ideal for sampling and decision-making. While clearly struggling to choose between nut patés on my first visit, I was instantly provided with a tiny taste, reminding me of sampling flavors in a homey ice cream shop (except here, everything was nutritious – not that I don’t love my ice cream).
Last night, after Sofia and I harassed the counter staff to fully understood our options, I went with the combo platter, which allowed me to sample five prepared dishes, all of which were refreshing and delightful.
Two hours later, we found ourselves locked in; the staff was smiling, but we definitely closed the place down. What can I say? I like to dine, especially with new friends.
Have you ever met someone through the internet?

I actually met one of my good friends online…on Myspace. She was the friend of one of my classmates, and we randomly started talking and had a lot in common. It was strange because I never did chat rooms or that sort of thing, but I came across her profile and it turned out we had this connection and we lived fairly close to one another. We first met at the movies, my parents were fine with it though her mom was very apprehensive. It’s such a funny story, it sounds like a Match.com set up or something! We usually tell people that we know each other through one of the school activities we both became involved in later. I’d like to have a blogger meet up once I’m back on the mainland!
Such a cool place! NYC is just the best. Glad you had fun with a fellow blogger. I have met several girls through blogging, but one actually turned out to be my real life best friend. It was a small world–we actually went to college together freshman year!
